Silver Maple Coffee Table with Elm.

This coffee table was an intricate delight. It was modeled after the St. Johns River which flows through Jacksonville, Florida. The table base is made from a combination of Big Leaf Maple, Elm, and Silver Maple and joined without any screws or hardware, just traditional joinery. It is very strong, and was tested with the standard scientific method of having 2 grown adults standing on the table before it was finished :)

The table top is built from one solid slab of Silver Maple pulled from a salvaged tree by Salem, OR. The epoxy is suspended in 3 layers to provide an opaque surface on the bottom for the light to filter through, but not show the items on the bottom shelf. The top layers provide a depth of color and translucent effects to capture the natural light from any direction.

The finish that was used was a combination of Danish Oil on the table base, and Rubio Monocoat on the table top surface.
